The feature

What is it?

Every verse you study gets a mastery score from 0 to 100 and a spot on a seven-level ladder: new, familiar, practicing, recalling, memorized, retained, mastered. Every graded answer moves it, and the math doesn't lie. Misses drop the score faster than wins raise it, and cramming the same verse all in one day earns half of what spaced-out practice earns. You can't fake the climb.

Not all practice proves the same thing, and the score knows it. Free recall, reciting out loud, and word-for-word quoting hit at full strength. Fill-in-the-blank and finish-the-verse land in the middle. Multiple choice and true/false? Barely a nudge, on purpose. Two gates guard the top of the ladder: no verse passes 'recalling' until you've truly recalled it at 80% or better, and 'retained' and 'mastered' only unlock when you nail a verse two weeks or more after your last review of it. A mastered verse isn't last night's cram. It's a verse that stuck.

Then there's the momentum layer. A daily streak: any study today counts the day once, and back-to-back days stack the run. XP for every correct answer, plus a +50 bonus for a perfect session. And a home dashboard card that picks your single best next move (clear due reviews before they slip, keep today's curriculum rolling, or rescue your weakest passage), with the reason and the number right there on the card.

How you'll use it

If you're a quizzer

Open the app. Your first move is already picked.

Start where the card points

The dashboard card has already ranked your day: due reviews first ('Review 12 due cards: clear scheduled review first so older material does not slip'), then today's curriculum, then your weakest passage. No scrolling. No guessing. Just go.
Warm up, then prove it

Multiple choice and flashcards get a new verse moving early, but they're weighted low, so the ladder soon asks for fill-in-the-blank, finish-the-verse, and free recall if you want to keep climbing.
Break the recall gate

Recall the verse at 80% or better in a real recall mode and it pushes past 'recalling' into 'memorized.' The score alone can't carry it there. You have to earn it.
Let time finish the job

A verse comes back after two weeks away and you still nail it? It steps up to 'retained,' then 'mastered': proof it lives in your long-term memory, not in last night's cram.
Keep the streak honest

Any real study today counts the day once. Back-to-back days stack the streak. Skip a day and it resets, so ten locked-in minutes tonight beats a Saturday binge.

Read mastery as readiness

Recognition modes are weighted too low to inflate the score, so a quizzer sitting at 85+ on a verse got there through demonstrated recall. When seats are on the line, you can trust it.
Set goals in ladder language

'Move these five verses from recalling to memorized by Friday' is a goal a kid can own, and hitting it takes real recall at 80% or better, not lucky guesses.
Drill from the weakest list

The weakest-verses view shows exactly where each quizzer's next practice hour should go, fed by every quiz, review, and study session.
Look for 'retained' before tournament

The top two levels only exist after two-week-spaced success. That's the recall that survives a quiz room. Count those verses when you're judging readiness.

Ask about the streak

One number tells you whether practice happened today, so encouragement gets specific ('Day nine!') instead of nagging.
Learn what the levels mean

'Memorized' means your quizzer genuinely recalled the verse at 80% or better; 'mastered' means it held up after weeks away. Both are dinner-table milestones worth celebrating.
Trust what you see

Easy modes can't inflate the score and misses count more than wins, so a climbing mastery number is real progress your quizzer earned.

Can you reach 'mastered' with multiple choice alone?

No. Recognition modes are weighted too low to carry a verse to the top, and two gates make sure of it: a verse can't pass 'recalling' without at least 80% accuracy in a genuine recall mode, and 'retained' and 'mastered' also require a successful review after a gap of two weeks or more.

What is the 'Recommended next' card?

It's the home-dashboard card that picks your single best next move, in a deliberate order: overdue reviews first, then today's curriculum, then your weakest area, then match or quiz practice. It always shows the reason and the number behind the pick, like 'Review 12 due cards' or '62% recall'.
