Memr.is helps young people hide Scripture in their hearts, and gives parents confidence in where and how they are learning. Safety is not an extra setting layered onto the platform. It shapes the platform from the beginning. The features that create the most risk on other apps simply are not here, and every account starts with protections based on age.
Safety Without the Fine Print
The safest risky features are the ones we never built.
Many platforms create open social spaces first, then ask families to manage the risks through settings. Memr.is takes a different approach. There are no direct messages. No public comments. No stranger-created content feed. No advertising. That means fewer settings to manage, and fewer places for problems to begin.

The three tiers
The Right Protections for Every Age
Every account is assigned an age tier, and the appropriate protections are applied automatically. Parents do not have to hunt through a settings menu to make the platform safer. Under-13 quizzers are welcome, but a guardian must approve the account before it can be used.

Some features, including notifications, expanded match rooms, and global leaderboards, are still being developed. Until they launch, Memr.is follows the stricter approach: matches remain private, and features that are not ready remain unavailable. One policy source drives all of this: every account's tier protections come from the platform itself, and enforcement reads that same source: leaderboards and the microphone today, match-room scoping and notifications as those surfaces roll out at launch. Until then the stricter truth holds: every match is a private invite-code room, and there are no notifications to silence yet. Rows marked guardian-adjustable are dials on the parent dashboard.
Under-13 accounts
A Parent Holds the Key
For children under 13, guardian consent is not a box someone checks during registration. It is what determines whether the account can be activated at all.

Sign-up starts
A quizzer or guardian starts the registration process and provides a parent or legal guardian’s email address.

The guardian gets an email
The guardian receives the current privacy notice and a consent request connected to that child.

The account waits & remains locked.
Until the required approval is complete, the account stays pending. The child cannot sign in or use the platform.

The guardian approves
The guardian confirms the relationship and gives consent through the parent dashboard. That consent is recorded and can be withdrawn later.

The account activates
Once approved, the quizzer can begin studying with the appropriate under-13 protections already in place. Nothing extra to configure. Nothing important left to chance.

Reciting Scripture out loud is one of the clearest ways to test whether a verse has truly been learned. Memr.is handles that experience with clear limits around microphone use.

Questions
What parents ask us first.
Is Memr.is safe for kids under 13?
Under-13 access is unavailable during the beta. Memr.is requires an expressly approved guardian-cleared flow with verified authority, current consent, an active family relationship, age protections, and supported deletion handling before allowing it.
Can strangers contact my child on Memr.is?
No. Direct messaging and public comments don't exist on Memr.is, for any user, at any age. Every verse, question, and reel comes from approved Scripture content, not from strangers' uploads, so there is no surface where a stranger could reach your child.
Who can see my child's name on a leaderboard?
For under-13 quizzers, leaderboards show first name plus last initial, visible only to their own team or church org. Teens are preset to team and org boards. Global boards don't exist at launch, and when they arrive they'll be strictly opt-in for teens. No child ever appears on a public board by default.
Does Memr.is record my child's voice?
Recite-aloud is unavailable on under-13 accounts and starts off for teens unless a verified guardian enables it. A browser or device speech service may process microphone audio under its own terms; Memr.is receives the transcript for grading and retains derived results rather than intentionally storing the raw recording.
What can I control from the parent dashboard?
A verified guardian can review and revoke consent, see safe progress summaries and the family timeline, and change the tier controls the policy marks adjustable. Quiet hours and daily pacing are currently stored presets rather than proven notification or hard usage enforcement.
Does Memr.is show ads or sell data?
The Memr.is product does not display third-party ads, sell personal information, or include advertising SDKs. The public marketing site does use analytics, campaign-measurement pixels, and Microsoft Clarity as described in the Privacy Policy; those marketing-site tools start automatically outside Europe and only after opt-in in Europe. Cloudflare Turnstile separately protects forms from automated abuse.
