Study mode 08 of 14

Name the reference

You can say it word-perfect, but can you say where it lives? This mode flips the card: verse on the screen, address on you.

What it is

The reverse round: see the verse text, answer with book, chapter, and verse. Because quoting a verse isn't the same as placing it.

Name the reference runs in reverse. Every other mode hides the words and shows you the address. This one shows the words and hides the address. Read the verse, then answer with book, chapter, and verse.

It catches the sneakiest gap in quizzing: verses you can recite in your sleep but can't put on the map. And it plays fair on close calls: right chapter, wrong verse is graded as exactly that, a near miss. Bring it out when your material is packed with passages that all sound the same.

How it plays

One run, start to finish

  1. Read the verse

The text fills the screen with the address stripped out. No book name, no numbers, just words you know.

  2. Name the address

You answer with book, chapter, and verse. All three, from memory.

  3. Near misses count fair

Right chapter, wrong verse? It's graded as exactly that: a near miss. The app knows the difference between close and lost.

  4. Watch it stack

Your answer feeds the same per-verse mastery score as every other mode, from the address side.

Where it shines

Name the reference is built for…

  • Reference-heavy quiz formats
  • Portions with look-alike or parallel passages
  • Quizzers who quote beautifully but blank on "where"
